HOW TO PREP FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION
RECENTLY ENGAGED AND PLANNING FOR YOUR SESSION?
Congratulations and follow along for some tips on how to prepare for your shoot! There’s a lot to think about when you’re getting ready for an engagement session, and I’m here to give you as much information that I can so you feel ready!
1. LADIES—GET YOUR NAILS DONE!
Now that you’re a FIANCÉ—we’re gonna show off that beautiful engagement ring! Your hands will be a focal point for many of the photos so you will definitely want to get your nails done, or just paint them yourself! Typically I recommend choosing a neutral color polish or fresh tips so that the color doesn’t take away from the ring, and works well with your outfit! If you’re a bold nail person then stick with a bold color because your shoot should be YOU! I’ve attach some examples below:
2. WHAT TO WEAR?
Picking your outfit is super important, and can be very overwhelming. Here’s a few tips to help make your decisions a little easier. First, make sure that your outfits go well with what your fiancé is wearing. Also think about your location, and the season you’ll be in. What color will your surroundings be? You don’t want your outfit to clash with the background—for example when you’re in spring and summer everything is green and lush, so you want to avoid wearing green. For spring and summer I recommend choosing a more neutral color scheme so you don’t clash with all the bright colors outside. Here’s a few examples:
In the fall and winter months you have a little more flexibility because neutrals work, but you can also play with color a little more. Here are a few examples:
Having photos taken can be uncomfortable and vulnerable, and my goal is to make you feel like I’m not even there, it’s just you and your honey BUT here’s a tip that will help make your shoot more comfortable—music! Creating a playlist of your favorite songs and playing it through a speaker during your shoot will drown out the sound of the camera’s shutter and distracts from the fact that you’re having your photo taken!
4. WHAT IS SOME THING THAT IS UNIQUE TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP?
The best part about couple shoots is that they can really look different for each couple! Try to think of something unique to your relationship that you can incorporate into your session. Some ideas would be something that was used during the proposal, something that involves what you did on your first date, a drink or food that you love to eat/drink together, maybe your fur babies, or even jewelry that was gifted to you, etc.
5. MEET WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER!
If you’re feeling extra nervous maybe meet up for coffee or set up a FaceTime call with your photographer. If I have a couple that’s more nervous than most couples I would be MORE than happy to do either option above. It’s so important that you’re able to be vulnerable with your photographer so that we can capture your love story in the purest form. While prompting and posing will be given during the session, if you’re very comfortable with your photographer we will be able to capture real little moments between you and your fiancé more. Feeling like you know your photographer going into the shoot instead of meeting for the first time in person there might be what loosens you up!
Hopefully these tips make you feel a little more prepared for your engagement session! :)
